I just bought a new GPU which is supposed to take 8GB of retention:
MSI Gaming GeForce GTX 1080 8GB GDDR5X SLI DirectX 12 VR Fix Graphics Card (GTX 1080 GAMING X 8G)

Just I ran Speccy and it'southward showing 4095 MB of memory. Am I reading it wrong? I have not washed any BIOS tweaks. I used DDU to uninstall my quondam GPU drivers, then downloaded and installed the latest nVidia drivers as a clean install. It'southward installed in the slot closest to the CPU. Accept I forgotten a pace or is in that location something wrong with the card?

My arrangement:

Become rid of Speccy and download HWinfo. (Not HWmonitor or Openhardware monitor. HWinfo)

yeah, use HWinfo.

Did you buy this card used or new?
If you bought it supposedly new, was information technology from a reputable source similar Amazon and such or from eBay or someone local who claimed information technology was new and it came sealed in plastic.

Cuz if y'all bought it used from somewhere online or local, or bought it local supposedly new it's possible you got a fake carte du jour.

Otherwise, your issue lies with speccy.
Alternatively, you can load up Windows DirectX Diagnostics and see what the video memory is at on there and also on MSI Afterburner.

If all sources say information technology's at 4GB simply you bought it new properly and so at that place's either an issue with the card and y'all need to RMA or at that place's an issue with your OS and/or drivers

Speccy replaced with HWInfo, problem solved. I tried DXDIAG and somehow information technology also showed the 4095 MB, just I'll trust HWInfo from now on.

Thanks, darkbreeze and xSimply1337x!

Here is my normal spiel on HWinfo, merely for your future reference or those who come up along afterward. Glad it worked out for you though, and now you see WHY I commonly mail THIS:

HWmonitor, Open hardware monitor, Realtemp, Speccy, Speedfan, Windows utilities, CPU-Z and virtually of the arranged motherboard utilities are frequently not the best choice every bit they are not always accurate. Some are actually grossly inaccurate, especially with sure chipsets or specific sensors that for whatever reason they tend to not similar or work well with. I've plant HWinfo or CoreTemp to be the About accurate with the broadest range of chipsets and sensors. They are also about religiously kept upward to engagement.

CoreTemp is great for just CPU thermals including core temps or distance to TJmax on AMD platforms.

HWinfo is peachy for pretty much EVERYTHING, including CPU thermals, core loads, core temps, package temps, GPU sensors, HDD and SSD sensors, motherboard chipset and VRM sensor, all of it. E'er select the "Sensors merely" choice when running HWinfo.

In cases where information technology is relevant and you are seeking help, and then in order to help you lot, it's often necessary to SEE what'south going on, in the event ane of united states can pick something out that seems out of place, or other indicators that just tin't be communicated via a text only postal service. In these cases, posting an prototype of the HWinfo sensors or something else can exist extremely helpful. That may not exist the example in YOUR thread, but if it is then the information at the post-obit link volition show you lot how to practice that:

*How to postal service images in Tom's hardware forums

Run HWinfo and look at organisation voltages and other sensor readings.

Monitoring temperatures, cadre speeds, voltages, clock ratios and other reported sensor information can often aid to pick out an outcome right off the bat. HWinfo is a adept way to become that data and in my experience tends to be more than accurate than some of the other utilities available. CPU-Z, GPU-Z and Cadre Temp all have their uses but HWinfo tends to take it all laid out in a more convenient fashion and then you can ordinarily see what one sensor is reporting while looking at another instead of having to flip through various tabs that accept specific groupings.

After installation, run the utility and when asked, cull "sensors but". The other window options take some utilize merely in virtually cases everything you need will be located in the sensors window. If you're taking screenshots to postal service for troubleshooting, it volition near probable require taking three screenshots and scrolling down the sensors window between screenshots in gild to capture them all.

It is near helpful if you tin can take a series of HWinfo screenshots at idle, after a cold boot to the desktop. Open up HWinfo and look for all of the Windows startup processes to complete. Unremarkably about four or five minutes should be plenty. Accept screenshots of all the HWinfo sensors.

Next, run something demanding like Prime95 version 26.half-dozen or Heaven benchmark. Take another ready of screenshots while either of those is running so we tin can run across what the hardware is doing while under a load.

*Download HWinfo

For temperature monitoring only, I feel Cadre Temp is the most accurate and likewise offers a quick visual reference for core speed, load and CPU voltage:

*Download Core Temp
